      Chamomile oil

Chamomile essential oils are highly sought after for their calming properties. However, it is essential to understand that there are different types of chamomile, and the essential oils derived from these plants have distinct properties, uses, and chemical compositions.

Two of the most common types of chamomile oils are German (blue) chamomile and Roman chamomile. Here are the main differences between them:

1)  Botanical origin:

  • Blue Chamomile (German Chamomile) Oil - derived from the Matricaria Chamomilla plant.
  • Roman Chamomile Oil - derived from the Chamaemelum Nobile plant

2)  Appearance:

  • German Chamomile - this oil is often deep blue in color due to its high content of a compound called (chamazulene). The blue color develops during the steam distillation process because chamazulene is produced from another compound, (matricin).
  • Roman Chamomile - this oil is usually clear to pale yellow. It does not contain as much (chamazulene) as the German variety.

3)  Flavor:

  • German chamomile - has a strong, sweet and herbaceous smell.
  • Roman Chamomile - has a warm, sweet, apple-like fragrance.

4) Chemical composition:

  • German chamomile - its key constituents include (chamazulene), farnesene and bisabolol. Chamazulene is particularly notable for its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Roman Chamomile - contains esters (such as angelate and tiglate) that are known for their soothing properties. It has less (chamazulene) than German chamomile.

5)  Therapeutic properties and uses:

  • German Chamomile: It is widely known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and healing properties, making it beneficial for skin problems such as eczema, rashes and burns. It is also useful for joint pain, muscle inflammation and digestive problems.
  • Roman Chamomile: Traditionally used for its calming and soothing properties, Roman Chamomile is great for stress, anxiety, insomnia and nervous tension. It is also gentle and often used for children's ailments.

6)  Price:

  • Due to differences in yield, cultivation and processing, the prices of these two oils may differ. Prices may also vary depending on quality, brand and region of production.

7)  Diseases of the scalp:

  • Chamomile is a natural and effective solution for lice and dandruff. Plus, it also soothes irritated scalps! Moisturizes the scalp and soothes the associated irritation or itching.

!!! Caution: When purchasing any type of chamomile oil, it is essential to ensure that you are getting a pure, high-quality product. Always check the botanical name to ensure you are purchasing the correct type of chamomile oil for your intended use.
